Thomas More’s Utopia

Hello readers!

So, after over a week of trying, I have finally managed to finish reading Thomas More’s Utopia! It’s a bit ridiculous how long it’s taken me to be perfectly honest with you; it is only 100 pages long after all… I’m going to begin by saying that Utopia is by no means one of my favourite books,  nor am I likely to read it again. However, it does offer some interesting insight into the personal feelings of Sir Thomas More with regards to the political, social, and religious state of the country at the time of writing.

Spoilers ahead readers! (If I can call them that, there really isn’t much of a story to spoil.)

Okay, so I am aware that literally no body is reading this, which is definitely a good thing… I have been incredibly lacks in updating this in the past few months… I don’t really have a good excuse, I’ll be honest. But I’m going to try and do better from now on, starting by blogging about the books I’m reading from my uni reading list.IMG_1938 Here are the books that I have to read:

  • Bleak House Charles Dickens
  • The Doctor’s Wife  Mary Braddon
  • Middlemarch George Eliot
  • Far From the Madding Crowd Thomas Hardy
  • Othello, Macbeth, Hamlet, Richard III, Richard II, Henry IV, Henry V, Titus Andronicus, and King Lear Shakespeare (Holy hell that’s a lot…)IMG_1937
  • Mankind Unknown
  • The Changeling Thomas Middleton
  • The Spanish Tragedy Thomas Kyd
  • The Revenger’s Tragedy Middleton/Tourner
  • Utopia Thomas More
  • Robinson Crusoe Daniel Defoe
  • Looking Backward Edward Bellamy
  • News from Nowhere William Morris
  • The Time Machine HG Wells
  • Brave New World Aldous Huxley
  • The Castle of Otranto Horace Walpole
  • The Mysteries of Udolpho Ann Radcliffe
  • The Monk Matthew LewisIMG_1942
  • Frankenstein Mary Shelley
  • Northanger Abbey Jane Austen
  • Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner James Hogg

So that’s a lot… Probably not going to be able to do this by September, but I can try! I’m starting with Utopia and then I’ll go from there. Needless to say, I am very excited to begin studying these texts, but as with everything, when someone tells me I have to do something, it makes me reluctant…. Hopefully, writing about each book on here will help keep me motivated to push through 😀IMG_1939 If anyone does read this, feel free to comment with any books that you’re planning to read soon, or let me know if you’ve read any of the books that I’ll be writing about. ’til next time readers, much love Georgie xxx
